Irken Dictionary -Etymology

       This is my little dictionary of Irken words that I have made up! For words that are canon, that is, taken from the show, three asterisks like this: *** will precede them. For all others, I will explain them.
       These are not in alphabetical order. They are in order of definition. Words that are similar in meaning will be placed together. The canon words will always precede the made-up ones.

***Irk: Planet Irk

***Irken: Of planet Irk

Girk: My Irken word for "Man". It means, "From the goo we have been raised into the topside of the Irk". It's the name for them, like "Mankind" is for our species, although "Irken" has become most commonly used because of the Space-Age; like Human has become for us during our age.

Argirk: My Irken word for "Woman". It means, "From the Girk we have come".    ("to wreak havoc upon ALL those who challenge~ us~!!!" Hee hee kees, just kidding on that last part~)

***Smeet: Child

Smeety: My Irken word for "Baby".

Smoot: My Irken word for "Boy".

Smarat: My Irken word for "Girl".

Morlormkey: My Irken measurement of days roughly equal to that of 2 months, 1 week on our calendar.

Porlormkey:  My Irken measurement of days roughly equal to that of 4 1/2 months on our calendar.

Murk: My Irken Age measurement. A year in age.

Smak: My Irken Height measurement.

7 1/3 murks = 11 1/3 years old
   
2 1/3 smaks = 5 feet 3 inches

Smolarc: My Irken word for "Rainbow." Basically, an "arc of color". (I know, lame, right?)

Smolor: My Irken word for "Color".

Mik: My slang-term, "Mik, I hate this!" It's like saying, "Man, I hate this!" Although it's not the Irken word for "Man".

Qemkowwahk: My idea. A hammock-like thing, except it's more like a spider's web and it's stable, with only the "webbing" giving it some minute movement. It usually has one end -the head end- placed higher than the other. It's comfortable for Irkens to lay in because it makes allowance for their pack.       (Pronunciation: Qemkowwahk - kem-cow-whack) (The spelling on this from looking at "web hammock" upside-down and then further messing with it.)

Scrubroom: My idea. Irkens don't use a liquid to clean themselves, they scrub their bodies with an abrasive soap and then wipe it off with a towel. The "scrubroom" is a place to do this, like a bathroom is for bathing. It also includes other things for the general maintenance of a person's looks. I got this idea from the episode, "Zit Boy" when Zim asks Gir for "cleansing chalk".

Automatic Sping: An automatic extractor used for extracting honey! It's bright red.

***Irken Names: Jhonen mentioned that he got a lot of the names in the show from Thai food. (I have not included the names here just because they would be too numerous to list!)
